Fishing is great on Lake Okeechobee even during this last cold front with big bass biting and even the chain pickerel were biting as well. For those of you who have never seen a chain pickerel they are beautiful fish with big sharp teeth and I nicknamed these the Lake Okeechobee Barracuda. I fished with Issac and Lisa Altizer from Virgina on Thursday March 14 and we battle the frigid temp and wind guest to catch some really nice Okeechobee bass. Although it was cold the fish acted like they didn’t know any better and were eating every shiner as fast as they were hitting the water for the first hour.
This mother and son duo caught lot’s of fish in the 2-3 lb range and Lisa had the big fish of the day with a solid 6 lb largemouth. We had a blast together and Issac is already talking about coming back next year. Can’t wait for the coming weeks as fishing should continue to keep getting better and don’t forget the shell cracker/bluegill bite is just around the corner.
