Speckled perch locally known as Crappie are starting to show up here on Lake Okeechobee. Water temps are cooling down and the fishing is heating up. No more same ole same ole fishing the river with minnows everyday. The water level is up and there are good numbers of specks being caught in the grass using jigs and grass shrimp. Jig the hydrilla in and around Harney Pond to North Shore and also check out the Kissimmee grass on King’s Bar to Buckhead Ridge.
For the fisherman using minnows fish government cut or drift the grass flat straight outside the river between little grassy and King’s bar.
Be looking for the specks to move into the cattails on and around the next full moon. This pattern should only get better for the next several months.
Good luck and don’t forget to invite your friends to the fish fry!!!!
